The concept of Cash for Clunkers (CARS) program was a good one. A federal program that gave a buyer up to $4500 if they bought a new more environmentally friend vehicle. They would then have to trade in there not so fuel-efficient car to the dealer. We excepting those trades with the understanding that we would sell them to salvage yards for modest pricing.
Jim Waldron’s management team decided “why don’t we give the profits back to the customer” that’s what Jim Waldron’s did. For those who participated in the Cash for Clunkers program at Jim Waldron’s they received cash. Our employees shopped around with those trade-in vehicles, looking for the best possible deal. Then, we shared that money with our customers, because it was really their car to begin with. Sales people started calling customers with news of checks waiting for them, some as high as $500.00. In return we received a handful of “thank you” letters to the dealership.
